Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Why do wisdom teeth need removing?

In many cases, the average person’s mouth accommodates only 28 teeth comfortably. When wisdom teeth begin to emerge, it means an additional four teeth are attempting to fit into limited space. This often leads to a range of issues such as crowding, discomfort, infection risks, and the necessity for extraction. Since wisdom teeth appear later than other teeth, by the time they emerge, the existing teeth have already settled into their positions. Through x-rays and examinations, an assessment is made if the wisdom teeth need to be removed. Sometimes, wisdom teeth emerge sideways, exacerbating the problems if left untreated. If you or your adolescent is nearing 18 years old, it may be a good idea to schedule an examination to evaluate their wisdom teeth. Contact us today to arrange an assessment.
