Post-surgery Instructions
Anaesthesia and Sedation
You are able to drive and perform most normal activities after surgery if the procedure was done under local anaesthesia only.
In cases of oral anxiolysis and sedation (anxiety-reducing tablets prior to procedure):
- An adult must accompany the patient to the practice and drive the patient home after the procedure.
- Ideally, you should not have anything to eat or drink for 4 hours prior to the appointment.
- Wear loose fitting clothing and comfortable shoes.
- Avoid wearing contact lenses and jewellery.
- Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery for 24 hours following the procedure.
In cases of IV sedation (twilight sedation) and general anaesthesia:
- All of the above; and
- You must not have anything to eat or drink for 8 hours prior to the surgery.
